Tulips: Masses of.
|
|
If I had digital back in 2003, I would have taken more than just one shot of this tulip. I would have seen that I needed to move a tiny bit to the right so that the nearest tulip wouldn't obstruct the stalk of the tulip in focus. I would have also seen that I needed to shoot from a slightly higher angle to cut off the shadows at the top of the frame. I would have seen.........
Heck. I still like this pic anyway. Something about the way the other flowers blend into each other makes me think of eating ice cream on the lawn with my girlfriends. Dreamy.

To Mahirah: Selamat Menyambut Hari Thaipusam. Love, Juaini.

Out of about 200 shots, these nine made me pretty happy. Nine shots seems damn good to me. I'm particularly happy with the drummer boys. I love the textures and tones in that pic.

Triple Take
|
|
It's been really really hot lately. On one hand I love sunny days (just as I love rainy days), but on the other hand I hate the blistering headaches I get with them. Before I got my headache this particular day, I managed to threathen death to my camera to get this pic:
This was actually taken on the same day as the previous entry, which was how I got those delicious dark skies in b&w. Why is this one called "Triple Take"? It was supposed to be "Double Take" but I couldn't get it right on the first try. No prizes for guessing how hard this one was.

Happy birthday Ngah; or Elle, Part IV
|
|
Today is my sister's birthday. The first one she's ever celebrated away from home. I celebrated her birthday by going to Mid Valley with my friends, eating my favorite sandwich (because she likes sandwiches), and buying a new sweater at Dorothy Perkins for 50% off, in honor of her status as shopper extraodinaire.
I probably should upload a picture of her, but since she's in Paris, I couldn't snap any of her today. Instead, I got this.
... which I also like anyway. Another step forward in my Photoshop education.

A couple of shots I liked, from a wedding I shot last Friday. The rest of the shots were kinda biasa-biasa je so I won't bore you.

The pic of the crystal represents a milestone in my Photoshop education: I actually used the Magnetic Lasso tool and a layer mask!! Thank you to the PTAR library at my campus for carrying a book on Photoshopping.

Eliana, Part III.
|

This shot is from a session of fooling around in Syahrin's newly opened studio in Melawati. It's so new it doesn't even have air conditioning, hence the fan blowing our model's hair. Yeah, right.

Farewells and wellwishers.

My sister and her husband left for Paris tonight. He will be posted there for three years as a diplomatic officer.
She's laughing, he's crying. The perfect image to represent the bittersweet duality of saying goodbye.

Home, sweet home; part III.
|
|
Taken around the same time as I did the sundal malam (ahahaha). My mom actually had two vases of fresh flowers in the living room. I actually hauled out the tripod and everything in the middle of the night because I figured if I waited till morning the fluffy red thingies would be dry. Sigh. The things we do for photography.
I used my 50mm with a 17mm extension tube I bought for 5 bucks on ebay three years ago. The extension tube is completely manual and won't meter with my D70s. I actually have to twist the aperture ring to select my aperture. Quaint, dontcha think? But after some trial and error at the exposures, the result was, I thought, pretty cool and well worth it.
